Home/Problems we fix/Missing from Google Maps

Customers are searching nearby.
The map shows everyone but you.

When someone searches for a service near them, Google shows a map with three businesses before anything else. Those three get most of the calls. If you are not one of them, most nearby customers never see you.

What owners tell us

What owners say
when they first call us.

“I see myself when I search, but customers do not.”

Google shapes the map around where the searcher is standing. You see yourself from your office. A customer three miles away may not.

“My competitor is on the map and I am not.”

Google weighs distance, how well a profile matches the search, and how established a business looks. They are probably ahead on one of those.

“I have a profile. Why am I still missing?”

A profile gets you onto the map. It does not get you into the top three. That takes a complete profile and steady activity.

How the page works

Three kinds of results,
three different sets of rules.

A search for a local service can show three separate sections. Each one is decided differently.

Sponsored results

Paid ads at the top, including Google's verified service ads. You pay per click or per lead.

The map pack

The three businesses beside the map. Decided by distance, relevance and prominence. It cannot be bought.

Regular results

The websites below the map. Decided mostly by your website and the sites that link to it.

Profile and website

The map and your website
help each other.

Google uses your website to judge how relevant you are to a search, and your profile to place you on the map. A strong profile with a thin website holds you back, and so does the opposite.

That is why we never work on one without looking at the other.

Questions

What owners ask
about the map.

Why does the map look different when I search?

Google shows each person a different map based on where they are. That is why we check from many points across your area.

Do I need to be on Apple Maps too?

Yes. People who ask Siri or open Apple Maps see Apple's results, and those come from a separate listing.

Will more reviews get me into the top three?

They help, but they are not the only factor. A complete profile in the right category with steady activity often matters as much.

Can I show on the map without a storefront?

Yes. Service area businesses can hide their address and still appear. The setup is different, and getting it wrong is a common reason businesses go missing.
